What Your Support Enables

We support animals and the people who love them through rescue, rehoming, spay/neuter and education.

Dogwood Animal Rescue is a nonprofit organization in Sonoma County, CA. We are foster-based, meaning the animals live in volunteer homes, not shelters, where they receive love, care, and attention until adopted. Why it matters: Every animal you help avoids suffering, gets treatment, and finds a chance at a happy life.

We are honored to have a community of volunteers who give their time and energy to support our mission. Our volunteers are our superpower!

Every rescue, every surgery, every happy tail is made possible by people like you. Your gift is a lifesaver.

Your help gives them a better future

Compassion creates change. Countless dogs and cats are abandoned, injured, or surrendered to overcrowded shelters. Many arrive sick, scared, or out of options—victims of neglect, lack of resources, or simply bad luck. But every animal deserves more than survival—they deserve warmth, care, and a chance to be loved. Dogwood believes in community over competition, in people and animals healing together, and in building a kinder world, one rescue at a time.

Our team of over 200 volunteers help with events/fundraising, fostering cats and dogs, provide transportation, assist with grant-writing and administration, and so much more.
You can help them grow!

The story of Kylie

Kylie was a stray seen wandering the streets for some time before someone noticed significant injuries to her back legs, likely from being hit by a vehicle. A rescue angel cared for her until she could make her way to Dogwood.

Once in our care she was seen by our vet partner who treated her wounds. She had a significant infection and there were heightened concerns for one leg. After weeks of antibiotics and daily bandage changes Kylie felt better and showed us what a special girl she is. Kylie caught the eye of her new loving family and we’re thrilled for this girl’s life of love ahead.

This is the most caring and thoughtful group of animal lovers you will ever meet. They work tirelessly to ensure that the animals in their program are matched well with their new families. Does this take time —absolutely! We just adopted our 2nd dog from Dogwood and feel so fortunate to these folks for helping us find our furry family members.

We adopted our pit bull puppy, Maui (Snowman when he was with them) from Dogwood almost a year ago. They asked a bunch of great questions to be sure he was going to the right home and we got to spend time meeting him and talking with his foster mom. Adopting from Dogwood was a great experience and we will definitely adopt from them again in the future.
